About Grade 5
Grade 5 is the standard SAE fastener grade for general automotive, agricultural, construction, and industrial applications. At 120,000 PSI minimum tensile strength, it handles the majority of structural and mechanical assembly tasks that don't require Grade 8's higher strength rating.
Clear zinc plating provides corrosion resistance suitable for indoor shop storage and standard outdoor applications. Grade 5's slightly lower hardness compared to Grade 8 also gives it better resistance to brittle fracture under impact — a practical advantage in equipment and agricultural work where shock loads are common.
If your applications require Grade 8 strength, the Grade 8 UNC 72-Hole Refill covers the same eight diameters at 150,000 PSI minimum tensile strength.
