About Grade 5
Grade 5 is the standard SAE fastener grade for most general automotive, agricultural, and light-to-medium industrial applications. At 120,000 PSI minimum tensile strength, it handles the vast majority of repair and assembly tasks that don't require the higher strength of Grade 8.
Clear zinc plating provides corrosion resistance for indoor shop environments and standard outdoor use. The lower hardness of Grade 5 compared to Grade 8 also makes it more resistant to brittle fracture in applications where impact loads are a factor.
