Best For
- Die and mold fixturing — socket heads clear tight counterbores and cavities where a hex head or wrench can't fit
- Machine part assembly — panels, covers, guards, and sub-assemblies accessed repeatedly with a hex key
- Confined-space fastening — anywhere a ratchet or open-end wrench can't swing freely
- Maintenance shops — a complete coarse-thread socket cap stock covering the five most common imperial sizes, organized and ready for daily use
- General industrial repair — a versatile starting inventory of the most commonly specified socket head cap screw sizes
About Socket Cap Screws
Socket head cap screws have a cylindrical head with a hex socket recess, driven by an Allen (hex) key. The head diameter is smaller than a standard hex head, which means they seat cleanly in counterbores and work in recesses where a wrench can never reach. The reduced-profile head also lets you pull parts tight against a mating surface without the head protruding past the joint.
Alloy steel construction gives socket cap screws high tensile strength well above standard Grade 5 equivalents, making them the default choice for machine tooling, precision industrial fastening, and anywhere a compact high-strength fastener is specified. Black oxide finish provides light corrosion resistance and reduces galling in precision bored holes. UNC coarse thread is standard for general-purpose assembly — faster to run down than fine thread and more tolerant of minor contamination or thread damage.
