About Black & Gold Jobber Bits
Black & Gold oxide is a super premium surface treatment that increases surface lubricity, reduces friction during cutting, and extends bit life compared to standard black oxide. It's the go-to finish for shops drilling steel regularly and running bits hard.
The 135° split point eliminates the need for a center punch on most materials — the bit self-centers on contact and begins cutting immediately. On the 3/16" and larger bits, three flats machined into the shank prevent the bit from rotating in a keyless chuck, which is the most common failure point when drilling under heavy load with hand-held equipment.
Jobber length is the standard working length for general drilling — long enough for most through-hole applications, short enough to stay rigid and accurate. This set covers every 64th-inch increment from 1/16" to 1/2", so you always have the exact size rather than forcing a close-enough substitute.
