80 Piece Clear Zinc Bow Tie Cotter Pin Assortment Starter Kit
When a hitch pin or clevis pin needs to be removed and re-engaged regularly — on a trailer coupler, a three-point hitch linkage, or an implement attachment — a bow tie cotter pin is faster to install and easier to seat from either end than a standard split cotter pin. This 80-piece kit covers six sizes of clear zinc bow tie cotter pins, pre-sorted in a 6-hole labeled small plastic drawer for tractor cabs, service trucks, and field repair kits.

About Bow Tie Cotter Pins
A bow tie cotter pin (also called a hairpin cotter pin or hitch pin clip) uses a double-loop design rather than the single bent-wire form of a standard cotter pin. Both ends of the pin are formed into a loop, which means the pin can be pushed or pulled through the hole from either direction — a significant practical advantage when a pin is in a tight or awkward position.
The double-end loop also provides stronger retention than a standard single-leg cotter pin of equivalent wire diameter. Both loops bear against the pin simultaneously when the fastener is under load, distributing the retention force across two contact points instead of one.
Installation is fast: push through the hole, and the spring tension of the wire holds it in place. Removal is equally quick — no bending required, no tools needed. This makes bow tie cotter pins the right choice for any connection that needs to be released and re-engaged regularly, such as implement hitches, quick-attach pins, and trailer connections.
For applications requiring permanent or semi-permanent retention — such as axle ends, castle nut locking, or machine shaft retention — see our 980-Piece Standard Cotter Pin Assortment.
